Day Five.
I woke to the sound of Christie dropping Emma and Chloe off. I leaped out of bed, locked the door and got dressed. Then I made my bed. Today we were going to grandfather mountain in North Carolina. It was only about twenty to thirty minutes away. I came out of my room and Aunt Wanda was getting our lunch packed up. Then, when everything was ready, we went off. Emma wanted some Wintermint lifesavers, but we were out, so Aunt Wanda stopped by a gas station to looked for some. There wasn’t anyway, so she got a bag of bubblegum and some suckers. Then, as we were driving out, Aunt Wanda rode over the curb. Everyone but me flinched, which everyone thought was hysterical. I would have laughed, but my mouth was full of gum.
When we reached Grandfather Mountain, we got out and decided to visit the animals before going to the Museum. We went to see the bears first, but they weren’t there. So we walked away and saw a Bald Eagle. He screeched at us, then preened his feathers. The Golden Eagle was next. She was rather shy, and hid behind a boulder. The otters were across the path, but they were sleeping. Next was the Pumas. (Or Mountain Lions or Cougars) Once was being as lazy as ever, laying next to a rock, whereas the second one was teasing the bears in the next pen. After spanning some pictures, we went to see the deer, which for me, wasn’t as fun as seeing the other animals, because I have deer living in my backyard!! (Kind of) We went back to the Bears. They were out, and people were feeding them. They would sit down, and have little bits of bear food (it looks like dog food) thrown at them, then would open their mouths. It was your job to aim into their mouths and not to miss. One would stick it tongue out if he didn’t get any. We left the bears and went to the Museum after seeing the Split Rock. (I never did see how it was split…) We went into the gift shop, where I got a cute fox on a key chain and a black bear with huckleberry chocolate hearts for Andrew. I got my dad a frame for a picture I was planning to get him, and I got a really cute Lion.. I also got my older sister a gift, but she hasn’t gotten it yet, so I wont mention it. :)
We went to the museum part next. There we learned about Grandfather mountain, the animals on it, and precious stones that were found in it. Then, we headed outside to eat out lunch. It was turkey sandwiches, cookies, pudding and chips.
When we were finished, we headed up the mountain to go on the Swinging Bridge, only to find it closed. We took a small hike instead.
On the way back to the house, Emma and Chloe and I warmed up a bit, talking about different scary stories we had heard.
There mom picked them up later that day, and then we had dinner, and watched Journey to the Center of the Earth. Both Aunt Wanda and Uncle Lee liked it. When we were done, I took a bath and then went to sleep.
